The Susan Barton Letters - The Blog Explained

This Blog is dedicated to  my brilliant glittering Sister who passed away in 1985.

Sue - my sister - 4 years older than me.  As children we were inseparable. She Mothered me, and I loved her dearly. She read the Narnia books to me, and told me I was handsome. She was sparked, at once beautiful, intelligent, creative and kind. She was a talented painter, was a good actress, and could write the most amazing letters.

As a teenager she tested my parents, living the life of clubs and all to fond of male attention.

She lived in sleepy village of Ferryside in Carmarthen with her husband Charles. Their little house on the edge of the startling beautiful estuary.

Sue - my soul mate, my friend, my protector. She had been my everything. She read to me the Narnia books, over and over, and held me close and told my parents off when their arguments upset me.

Sue - my defender and guardian, my role model and closest friend, my mentor.

In 1973 Charles, an Officer in the Merchant Navy, was to sail and tour the world. Sue would travel with him as his wife. She recorded that adventure in 15 extensive letters to my parents. In these letters she minutely detailed her life on board ship.

This Blog offers those letters up for all to view. An extraordinary record of her extraordinary life.
